Hate crimes and incidents are committed against someone because of their, disability, gender identity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation.

Examples could include

  • physical assault
  • vandalism
  • verbal slurs or discriminatory gestures
  • online harassment

Experiencing a hate crime or a hate incident can be frightening, upsetting and make you feel isolated. It's important that you tell the right services about this so you can get the support you need.

If you experience a hate crime

As this is a criminal offence you should report it to the police, by calling 999 in an emergency or 101 in a non-emergency. Once you have reported it, please let us know by completing our online form including the incident report number.

Even if you are unsure whether what happened is a crime, it is still worth reporting. Your experience matters.
