Contents insurance

Protect the things that mean the most to you

Have you ever wondered how you’d cope if you lost your most treasured belongings in an emergency like a fire, theft or damage from flooding?

Home is where the heart is, but it’s also where you keep the possessions that mean the most to you, so it’s important you protect them - that’s where contents insurance comes in.

Why is contents insurance important?

If the worst was to happen, a contents insurance policy could cover the cost of replacing your personal items to help put things right. As your landlord, we insure the structure of your home, but this doesn’t include what’s in it.

Contents insurance can really make a huge difference after a tragedy, and gives you real peace of mind, knowing that your belongings are protected. Not everything will be covered by contents insurance, however most policies allow you to pay for additional cover to suit your individual needs.

What does it cover?

Every contents insurance policy is different, but as a general rule, our ‘contents’ are the items you would take with you if you moved home. This will usually include items such as furniture, kitchenware, electrical items, clothes, jewellery, ornaments and antiques.

What isn't covered?

Not everything is covered by contents insurance. Structural elements of your home are not covered, nor is mechanical breakdown or wear and tear of your belongings. However, freestanding objects like a washing machine may be covered.

What types of insurance are there?

When it comes to contents insurance, there are three main types of policies available:

Bedroom rated – this type of policy uses the number of bedrooms in your home to calculate the amount of contents cover you get. These policies typically provide between £40,000 and £50,000 of cover.

Sum insured – For this policy, you’ll need to calculate the amount of contents cover you need, based on how much your items are worth.

Unlimited sum insured – An unlimited sum insured policy covers all your contents without any limit, so you don’t have to worry about being underinsured.

We've joined forces with Aviva

To help you protect your personal belongings for a lower cost, we’ve teamed up with one of the UK’s largest insurers, Aviva. Prices start from as little as £1.46* per month for £4,000 of cover. You’ll also have the option to add additional cover for items away from the home, as well as wheelchairs, mobility scooters and hearing aids – for an additional premium.

All your home contents will be covered on a ‘new for old’ basis, except for linen and clothing which will have a deduction for wear and tear.

If you need to make a claim, there will be no excess to pay and your premium (that’s the price you pay each month) won’t go up after you make a claim.

Premiums are payable in monthly instalments with no interest charged. To find out more or to take out a new contents insurance policy, get in touch with us below.
