Saxon Road, Saxmundham
In Saxmundham, a small market town in Suffolk, an exciting transformation has been approved for Saxon Road. What is currently a row of 16 underused garages is set to be regenerated into affordable homes and shared green space bringing new life to a tucked-away site and responding directly to the needs of the local community.
The Site Today
The site sits between the back gardens of homes on Heron Road and Saxon Road. While the garages have served their purpose in the past, they’re now largely unused and have become a source of concern for local residents, particularly around safety and anti-social behaviour.
The Vision
This project aims to create a small, well-designed development of five affordable homes. The focus is on high-quality living, sustainability, and fitting in well with the surrounding area. The homes are being designed to feel safe, welcoming and comfortable, while meeting local housing needs.
The site will be laid out in two small groups of homes. To the south, there will be two two‑storey houses and to the north, three single‑storey homes are proposed.
The layout has been carefully considered to make the best use of space while allowing plenty of natural light, outdoor areas, and privacy for residents. Shared spaces and clear boundaries will help create a friendly, neighbourly environment.

What happens next?
East Suffolk Council approved the detailed planning application for the site in 2025. With the approval of the application, we’ve been working up the next steps. This stage takes some time, as it’s important we get it right – ensuring the homes we build are of the highest quality and truly meet the needs of future residents. We’ll keep this page updated and continue to be in touch directly with residents in and around Saxon Road.
